Every story links to evidence you can inspect. Here is how we choose and check those sources.

Source hierarchy

  1. Primary documents — peer-reviewed papers, official statistics, court filings, agency releases.
  2. Reputable reporting — established outlets with editorial standards and named reporters.
  3. Institutional announcements — universities, NGOs, governments — cross-checked when possible.

What we avoid

  • Anonymous social posts presented as fact
  • Press releases repeated without independent confirmation on major claims
  • Preprints cited as settled science without noting review status

Uncertainty and caveats

Early-stage trials, pilot programmes, and single-country results carry limits. When scale or durability is unknown, we say so — often in a dedicated caveat line on the story card.
